JB Manages NCI caBIG Conference

JB was the proud contractor supporting the U. S Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), National Institutes of Health, National Cancer Institute, Cancer Biomedical Information Grid (caBIG) Annual Conference of over 1200 participants in Washington D.C., July 20-22, 2009.

JB provided completed logistical support for the 2009 Cancer Biomedical Informatics Grid Annual Meeting (caBIG®) with estimated attendance of 1200 participants July 20-22, 2009. The program consisted of a Newcomer’s Program, India web-casting using the World Bank to connect to multiple sites, two interactive sessions, Hack-a-thon, and 10 breakout sessions. The Annual meeting planning and management includes, responsibility for all logistical arrangements involved in planning and implementing the conference; establishment of conference invitational list; maintenance of a registration and abstract submission system; marketing activities to increase attendance; and, coordination of all travel arrangements, including covering the costs of sponsored travel for non-federal participants/speakers where designated by the government. JB provided support for the second part of the program – the World’s Fair, which consisted of 3 days of exhibits that provided participants opportunities to see caBIG® in action through tools, demos, posters, displays, and a Knowledge Center. The World’s Fair and Hack-a-thon portion of the program required over 180 wireless and 20 hard wired internet connections. As a result, several technicians were on staff during the entire meeting to ensure proper coverage and provide troubleshooting services. All assigned conference staff members were provided a radio to assist with quick response.
